Cobras received a major boost with an emphatic victory over the University side, for whom almost half the team were rookies. Having said that, after taking a three goal lead within five minutes - with another goal cancelled, the Cobras rookies also got a healthy amount of ice time, and all acquitted themselves well.
Each period was very similar, with Cobras dominating the play almost all the time, and the final shot count of Cobras 48 to Oxford's 5 tells the story.
The opening period saw Cobras take a quick 3-0 lead, through Katy Allen, Rachael Mockler and Rachel Kearn, and having given plenty of ice time to the rookies on the squad Rachael Mockler and Katy Allen added their second goals to send the Cobras into the break with a 5-0 cushion.
The middle stanza saw pretty much a stalemate for the first five minutes, before Jen Stedman added to the Cobras lead. Oxford then took the first penalty of the game, and following a scramble in front of the Cobras net, the puck squirted free to an unmarked Blue, Sharon Audsley, who opened the scoring shorthanded.
Just over a minute later, the Cobras capitalised on the powerplay through Rachael Mockler, and as the Blues tired, Emma Stott and Rachel Kearn were able to extend the lead to 9-1.
A fast skate from the face off, saw Katy Allen notch her hat trick goal 20 seconds into the third period, before two quick penalties saw the Cobras unable to use a two player advantage - which was soon cancelled out when Rachael Mockler took the Cobras only penalty of the game.
The Blues would have probably been happy with a 10-1 scoreline, but a final Cobras burst saw goals from player of the game Elen Stedman, Rachael Mockler, Rachel Kearn, Jen Stedman and Katy Allen. Blues players of the game was Lori Ormrod.
