Streatham Storm 9 Chelmsford Cobras 1

Cobras travelled to South London for their penultimate match of the season on Sunday, again short-handed, and again borrowing goalie Denise Weston from Oxford City Zodiacs.

The game started encouragingly with the Cobras absorbing alot of Storm pressure, and occasionally breaking out on attack. It was midway through the period when Streatham opened the scoring through Sue Cuthbertson. This was followed by Cobras taking a few dubious penalties, and conceding a second whilst two players short, and with little over a minute left Cuthbertson notched her second of the game. With only seconds left in the period a frantic scramble saw Rachel Kearn come very close to opening the Cobras account with a shot that hit the post.

In the second period the game was alot more even, with each team getting a similar number of shots. It was ten minutes before the Storm extended their lead, and a minute later Cobras opened their account, when player of the game Kimberly Hales managed to finish off a major scramble in front of the net, and the period ended with the Storm still leading by 4-1.

By the third, the Cobras were tiring, and the Storm were eager to win big. Having soaked up the pressure for half the period with only one goal conceded (from player of the game Mel Higgs), Streatham's Zuzana Dobrovolna scored four unanswered goals (for a total of 6), before collecting a whole stack of penalties for disputing a penalty called on her.

Scoring:

Streatham: Zuzana Dobrovolna 6+1(31), Sue Cuthbertson 2+1(0), Mel Higgs 1+0(2), Ruth Poppe 0+2(2)

Chelmsford: Kimberly Hales 1+0(0), Marianne Wright 0+0(2), bench (2), Rachael Mockler 0+0(4), Jen Stedman 0+0(4)
