Milton Keynes Falcons v Chelmsford Cobras at Milton Keynes on 5-Sep-2004

Last modified: Fri 10 Sep 16:29:59 2004
Chelmsford travelled to MK for the opening game of the season, having been let down by Basingstoke the week before, and started strongly. The game opened with Karen Law scoring the first goal for the Cobras at a stunning time of 1.37, ably assisted by Marianne Wright. Both teams were taking their time settling into the game & it was eight minutes later that Chelmsford scored their second with Val Bennett, last years Player's Player netting her first goal assisted by new recruit Kelly Lewis. Just 33 seconds later, Kelly Lewis scored her first for the team, assisted by Vicky Juniper & Stacey Wood, swiftly followed eight seconds later by Stacey Wood finding the back of the net with a pass from Kelly Lewis at 11.25. Milton Keynes took a roughing penalty at 14.26 leaving the first period with the score 0-4 to the Cobras.

The second period was useful for Chelmsford as it gave the Head Coach Paul Wilcock a chance to play three-line hockey & everyone took advantage of this, with plenty of ice-time and opportunities. Credit to the MK keeper, she only conceded one goal, right at the end of the second period at 29.28 when Karen Law scored her second, assisted by Elle Paxman & Becky Preen. Cobras' final goal came at 41.39 when Kelly Lewis scored her second, assisted again by Stacey Wood. Cobras' net-minder Sasha Martin had a 16 shot shutout and Player of the Match was veteran Jo Abbs in defence. Special mentions should go to Kelly Lewis for her 2-goal tally in her first ice game, Elle Paxman, Tara North & Felicity Bulmer for their first game in Cobras colours.

The next home game is on 10th October at 7pm against the Peterborough Penguins. Should anyone wish to sponsor the Cobras, please contact Player/Manager Jo Abbs or 07976 376378.
