Report by Jo Abbs and Stacey Wood

The Cobras welcomed Peterborough for the second home game of the season, high on their previous week's victory against Basingstoke 10-0.

The game started well as at 2.07 Stacey Wood skated on to a behind the net pass from Carly Helm, slotting it in to open the Cobras account. Some great end-to-end play kept both netminders busy with plenty of shots until Peterborough's Alex Spooner equalised at 12.38, assisted by Emma Wildman tying the first period 1-1.

The Cobras came out for the second period determined to make the game theirs. At 14.37 Jen King was penalised for Body Checking & Chelmsford had a powerplay, forcing lots of shots onto the oppositions net, with plenty from the blue line. At 17.55 Karen Law scored her first, assisted by Nikki Grant to restore the lead, followed swiftly at 18.58 as Emma Stott opened her account assisted by Wood and Marianne Wright.

Christine Sowinski was binned at 22.44 after body checking Spooner, undoubtedly Peterborough's best player, but the Cobras easily killed of their shorthanded play, even getting shots on goal! The second period ended with defender Sue Williams receiving a pass from Grant to skate into the high slot & blast the shot into the net at 28.30 taking the Cobras into the third period 4-1 up to the good.

The final period opened with Stott gaining her second of the evening, as unassisted strike at 34.05. Peterborough fought hard and Spooner again broke the Cobras defence to place the puck past the hard working Netminder Anna Kirkby at 36.51. Stott was then penalised for holding the stick at 37.48, but again the Cobras shorthanded special play held the Penguins at bay and ran the penalty down. After some great work, Rachel Kearn sent player of the game Grant off to score her first at 42.21 taking the score to 6-2.

Following the copious amounts of shots from the blue line, finally at 43.48 defender Jo Abbs sent a low wrist-shot from the right point through a forest of legs, Law stepped over the puck to see the 7th goal go in! Law then took a centre ice pass from Abbs, danced around the defence to post her second goal at 44.04. The final goal of the game was an identical strike from Wood for her second of the evening, assisted ably by Williams at 44.11 taking the final score to 9-2 in the Cobras favour.
