Cobras travelled to Gosport to play the newly formed Basingstoke Bears looking for their first points of the season, having lost their opening two games. It wasn't long before they were on the score sheet, when after 14 seconds Emma Stott & Christine Sowinski combined to find Stacey Wood in from of the net to tuck it away. With such a quick start, Chelmsford thought it was going to be their day, but great defending from Basingstoke held the Cobras until 9.04 when Sue Williams had a cracking shot from the blue line to take the score to 2-0. Williams added to her tally 50 seconds later, as Sowinski passed for another blue line boomer, ending the period 3-0 to Chelmsford.
The second period started much the same with the Cobras determined to keep the pressure on. At 17.48 Stott & Wood combined to set Sowinski up for her first club goal in her debut game for Chelmsford and 5 minutes later at 23.21, Karen Law scored from a great Carly Helm pass to take the score to 5-0. Stott's hard work all game then paid off as she got off the mark assisted by Wood & Sowinski at 25.05, followed by Law, then Stott again from Wood to end the period 8-0.
The third period started slowly with the Cobras eager to defend Netminder Anna Kirkby's shutout, but at 32.43 Sowinski gained her second of the evening assisted ably by Williams. The final goal of the game came halfway through the third period at 36.43 as Stott from Wood again scored, taking the total to 10-0. The Cobras iced new and young players for this game & morale has certainly been lifted for the next game, which is on 26th October at 5.30, at Riverside Ice & Leisure.
Carly Helm was awarded MVP for her great effort & this was a great team performance.
