6th May 2000 Streatham Storm 4 Chelmsford Cobras 10

Chelmsford Cobras travelled to Oxford to take on the Streatham Storm in their penultimate game of the season, looking for a win to confirm their fourth place finish in the league.

The game started with Streatham applying the first pressure, with Carly Davis comfortably turning away the opening shots. Cobras then broke away, and within three minutes, Jen Stedman and Katy Allen had both scored on their first shots of the game. Streatham's defence was looking extremely shaky when Chelmsford netted their third through Katy Allen in the fifth minute.

With a three-goal lead, the Cobras relaxed, and started to ice their full bench. This resulted in both teams trying to exert pressure on one another, but in most cases, the final shot never made it to the goalies. That was until, about 40 seconds into a power play, when Isabelle Boisse was on hand to open the Storm scoring. This kick started the Cobras, and only 20 seconds later, Stacey Wood had restored the three-goal cushion.

The second period saw each team neutralising each other again until Streatham grabbed their second goal through Sue Parsons, and this time it took only 10 seconds for Stacey Wood to restore the Cobras lead. Shortly before the end of the period, with Streatham again on the power play, Emma Stott was able to grab a short-handed goal to send the teams into the break with Chelmsford leading 6-2.

The final session started with Chelmsford on fire, and Stacey Wood completing her hat trick within the first minute. Then Streatham hit penalty trouble, and Jen Stedman converted the power play chance, followed by Stacey Wood's fourth of the evening to increase the lead to 9-2.

Once again, Chelmsford relaxed, and first Elli Gomm, and then Andi Sharp were on hand to double the Streatham tally for the game. Katy Allen completed the scoring in the last minute when she completed her hat trick.

Player of the game awards went to Sally Taylor for Streatham, playing her first complete game in goal, and for Chelmsford, four-goal scorer Stacey Wood.

Cobras' next game sees them return to Oxford on 13th May for their final game of the season against the Oxford University Blues. Face-off is at 16:30.
