Invicta Dynamics 4 Chelmsford Cobras 3

Cobras travelled to Kent for their opening fixture of the new season keen to get off to a good start.

The opening period started with both teams playing cautious hockey as they tried to get to grips with each others tactics, the play flowed from end to end, but there were few chances until the home side broke in on the Cobras net, and Tracy Gough opened the scoring. This was followed shortly after by a strike from former Cobra Rhonda Root to give the Dynamics a 2-0 lead.

This set Chelmsford back on their heels, and a few minutes passed while the team consolidated, and eventually opened their account when Emma Stott finished off a sweet passing play from Jen Stedman and Stacey Wood.

Both teams had a few more chances, but it looked as if the period would finish at 2-1, when Invicta's player of the game, Tracy Gough grabbed her second of the evening to re-establish the home teams two goal lead.

The second period was a stark contrast to the first, as Invicta seemed content to protect their lead, but whilst Chelmsford tried to attack, they were unable to get any quality shots on goal, and the period ended scoreless.

Within a minute of the start of the final period, Cobras were on the score sheet again. A scramble in front of the Dynamics net resulted in Chelmsford's player of the game Stacey Wood bringing the deficit back to a single goal, and it was only a little over a minute later when Emma Stott got her second goal to tie the score at 3-3.

With their lead now gone, Invicta started to apply more pressure on the Cobras net, and with only 8 minutes left in the game Heidi Korff scored what was to be the game winner, as despite plenty of Chelmsford pressure they were unable to break though.

The Spirit of the Game awards were given to Carly Wright from Invicta, and Carmel Buttimer from Chelmsford.

Scoring:

Invicta: Tracy Gough 2+0(0), Rhonda Root 1+2(0), Heidi Korff 1+2(0), and Robyn Mapp 0+0(2)

Chelmsford: Emma Stott 2+0(0), Stacey Wood 1+2(0), Jen Stedman 0+1(0), and Marianne Wright 0+0(2).
